Go Ahead and Unfriend Me

There have been times recently when I was looking at Facebook, and I noticed that someone who used to be my "friend", wasn't. I know I did not unfriend them, so the only option at that point is that they unfriended me. And you know what? Screw them. If my tolerant political views (which I never post on Facebook) and the pictures of my children offend them so much that they don't want to be my Facebook friend, then they aren't my real life friend either. I wash my hands of them.

Not too long ago I had someone send me a friend request, and after I accepted they asked me for a favor, which I did because I'm a nice person. Not long after that I noticed they had unfriended me. Clearly they had gotten what they needed, but was it completely necessary to unfriend me after that? Is my presence on their list of "friends" really bothering them that much that it required deleting? Obviously not everyone on my list of friends is someone I want to hang out with everyday, but if I don't want to see their Facebook feed because if I want to see a bunch of dumb political opinions I'd watch Fox News then I just unsubscribe. If they are constantly liking pictures of girls showing off their cleavage and I don't want to see that (true story) then I unsubscribe. Its that simple.

I guess if I still cared about what people thought, like I did when I was a teenager, then I would care more when some dumb person I went to high school with doesn't want to be my Facebook friend anymore. But if we were ever really friends, they wouldn't delete me. I don't even really get why someone wouldn't like me anyway. I'm not that bad. I'm a decent cook (not that they can taste my food through Facebook), I'm reasonably polite, I'm kind of funny. I'm not horrible to look at, and neither are my kids. I don't post about drama or fish for compliments/sympathy. As far as I know I'm tolerable. Maybe the pictures of my children offend them, or the occasional anecdote about my life. I guess I'm just too edgy for most people, they cannot handle it, and that's fine. I'm only mad I didn't unfriend them first.

I've Evolved?

Tomorrow I turn 32. Yeah. Let's not talk about that....

I feel like, hopefully, I have gotten better with age. I feel like I'm just starting to figure some things out. Blowdrying your hair is a fine art that takes many years to master. There are things I'm still working on, things I want to improve, but mostly, I feel like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. I don't long to change anything in my life.

But still, I do change. I keep growing up and learning stuff. Growing old I guess. The things I find fun now are not things I ever thought I would like. If someone had told me 15 years ago (when I was 17, yikes!) that I would ever willingly go to Lowe's, much less want to go there, and buy a whole cartload of plants, I would have rolled my eyes and stunned them with my wit and teen angst. But now, I covet plants. My porch is covered with flowerpots and I spent a good hour yesterday digging holes to plant new bushes that I bought. I did this for fun people. I enjoyed it. It was weird.

As we grow up, and along with that, grow old, we change. At least we should, just a little. We mature. Its supposed to happen. If it doesn't, things get awkward. If I still dressed the same now as I did when I was 17 I would look like an idiot, because 32 is kind of too old for an eyebrow ring and a t-shirt that says Boys Lie. Even if that shirt speaks the truth. I don't still watch Dawson's Creek, although its an awesome show....and I don't decorate my room with posters or those cheesy wine glass things you get at Prom. Because I'm an adult. I don't wear overalls or smear glitter all over my eyelids like its freaking lotion. Because I'm an adult. And the glitter would probably settle into those little fine lines that I now have around my eyes, thanks adulthood. I don't worry about what boys think of me, and I know exactly who I am and who I want to be without having to be defined by what I wear to school or if my jeans are the right name brand.

We have, to some extent, change with the times. Technology and life changes, and you can either embrace it, or keep using your giant flip phone like its 2004. Your choice. I was ridiculously opposed to Facebook 5 years ago, but now I look at it everyday. I swore on my life I would never ever ever type "LOL" on anything. Ever. Now I use it so often I almost said it aloud in conversation the other day. Instead of actually laughing, I came dangerously close to saying LOL. I have an iPhone, although I was opposed to it because I didn't need a smart phone. I still don't need it, but I have it so I may as well use it right?

Now that I'm an adult I take pride in different stuff, like a clean house and good food. I would rather have a yard full of green grass than a brand name purse, and I will work hard to get that. I don't mind being defined by my role as a mom, even though there is more to me than that. I watch more Peppa Pig than I would care to, but at least its not The Bachelor because seriously how can anyone stand that show? I cannot deny that I'm a grown up, so most of the time I will act like one. But if I get a chance to watch cartoons and eat cookies all day? I'm totally taking it.

I Hate Pawn Stars and Other Random Thoughts

So. Here I am. Its 2014, I've washed my hair once so far this year. That's a remarkable accomplishment if you ask me. I managed to do as little as possible during Christmas break. One day I actually felt kind of crappy and overtired from doing nothing but reading. I was literally exhausted, and I had laid around all day.

My kids are all recovering from the stomach flu, poor Witten came down with it last night and napped about half the day as a result. The girls got over it just in time for school to start back up, but they wasted their last weekend of break laying on the couch and throwing up on literally every surface in the bathroom. EVERY SURFACE. I feel a sense of impending doom since I have yet to get sick, but I got a flu shot suckas, you aren't infecting me with every germ you bring around here.

I want to blog more, but I think that Instagram has taken a major spot in the documenting-my-life-and-such as far as day-to-day life goes. That, and my best ideas come to me at 10 pm, right when I decide that I've had enough for the day and my head hits the pillow. Then my brain is like, Hey, you know what would be great to blog about? Everything. You should totally write about all of the things, and your thoughts and opinions on all of the things. Go ahead, I'll wait. But instead I go to sleep, putting off for tomorrow what my brain thinks I should do NOW NOW NOW. Then, when tomorrow arrives, my blog ideas have gone somewhere else, my brain instead occupied with thoughts of What time is it? Five more minutes of sleep please, then I'll make Alana's lunch. I don't want to get up, mornings are terrible, just sleep some more then we will eat eggs and sit on the couch and never ever blog. That's what my actual thoughts are, FYI.

After my kids go to sleep is the only time I find to blog, that's how I have found myself here, furiously typing away as David watches Pawn Stars. Stupid show, who cares about this crap anyway. After this show there will be football, there's always football to be watched. Usually I occupy myself with Pinterest, scrolling away through recipes and gardens I would love to grow if my baby would stop climbing the stairs and eating sidewalk chalk everytime I take him outside. Someday I will make him rake and pull weeds, then we will be even...

I don't technically make New Year's resolutions. I don't really see the point, why wait till a new year to start changing things. That aside, there are things I would like to do this year. Maybe blog, we'll see how that one goes. I think one of the main things on my to-do list for 2014 is yard work. We bought this house last March, and the yard was nothing but powdery dirt in front, and overgrown trees and bushes everywhere else. It is fenced in, but the back faces an alley and the high school, and the chain link offers zero privacy. There is no separation between the front and back, and I hate that. We are dreaming and planning on buying a swingset next month, so my mission is to clear the ugly mesquite tree from the back and plant some bushes to act as a living fence. That seems like a doable task for 2014, especially when its nice and sunny in AZ right now, and everywhere else is covered in snow.

Now I've had to put Witten back to sleep, which caused me to lose my random train of thought, and the only way to get it back is to travel to that point about 30 seconds before sleep, after which I will remember nothing. So instead I will leave you with a picture of some kids. They're okay I guess, I might keep them, because I heard that eventually they will learn how to fold their own laundry. If that doesn't pan out then I will reconsider.

Procrastination Champion of the World

I was going to write a post, but then I had stuff to do. And a 5 page term paper/book report to write on a book about Cleopatra that I didn't even read yet. I had laundry to fold. And my kids expect me to feed them like 3-4 times a day, which is getting ridiculous. Life is busy. Life is crazy. I stay up too late every night, just because I can. In theory I could blog at that point in my day, but David is yelling at whatever sporting event is on TV and my brain says no, just look at Pinterest. So I do. I listen to my brain most times.

In just over a week I will be done with school for this semester and I have to say THANK GOODNESS. I'm tired of learning, I want to read a book for fun. I'm a nerd, but a lazy one.

My house is decorated for Christmas, my tree has actually been up for a really long time. I have an excuse though. Its a good one. Wait for it....
Maybe I'll tell you later.

Witten keeps me busy some days. He. is. wild. He climbs on stuff, gets into cupboards, and jumps off of the couch. Everyday he makes a mental to-do list of bratty things to accomplish, and he does not procrastinate like me. He gets it done. An over-achiever, this boy.
Ava has been up to her usual, watching iCarly and whining about stuff. That's what she does, especially if Alana isn't home. When Alana is home they play together, and fight together. I'd like to think its mostly playing.
And Alana, she is the same sweet and outgoing lady she's always been. She does so good in school, she loves learning. I think she likes making friends just as much though, which is a lot. She loves playing school, and reading, and those are both hobbies I can fully endorse.
I'm hoping to "catch up" on blogging during Christmas break. That's one of my goals, along with washing my hair as little as possible, wearing yoga pants daily, and not leaving my house before 9 am. Its good to have goals, gives you something to work towards, or something to postpone...

Fall Break: A Review

First of all, my main problem with fall break is this: it was not invented until I was an adult. I could've used a week or two off when I was in school. This is bull crap. Moving on, our fall break was both eventful and lazy enough so I didn't have to wash my hair more than 5 times max.

The first few days we did zero activities, besides soccer. Then Alana's birthday landed on the first Wednesday of the break, so she had a party, which I talked about here. She had a blast, she is a lover of birthdays.

I managed to remain inactive again for the few days after that. We laid around our house, basically did nothing but watch The Croods 20 times a day. Alana still had soccer practice, but that doesn't require much effort from me.

On the Saturday after Alana's birthday we had another party at Peter Piper, which I also blogged about here. I even washed my hair for the occasion, but then not again for a few days.

At some point amidst all the days that I didn't wash my hair, we managed to go outside and snap a couple of family pictures. The light behind these pecan trees in our yard was too perfect to pass up. It was worth washing my hair.

The second week of fall break I pretty much had nothing planned. This led to more watching of The Croods, less washing of my hair, and lots of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. And I took a few more pictures. There was one perfect day where the weather was so nice outside, it actually felt like fall. So we had to play out there, it would've been criminal not to.

After my two weeks of laziness all of our plans for fun pretty much fell on the same day: David's birthday. We had tickets to Disney on Ice and plans to celebrate without any kids later that day. A funny story about Disney on Ice, I was 100% sure that our tickets were for the 11 am show. But when I pulled out the tickets, they said 3 pm. That altered our plans a little bit, but luckily I double checked or we would've been in Tucson 4 hours too early. That would've been slightly inconvenient.

The whole day of the show Ava cried and whined, like she does, because she didn't want to leave Witten to go to Disney on Ice. She was going to miss him too much. It would've been cute if it wasn't so annoying. Every time I turned around she was standing there crying. We finally talked some sense into her, not a lot, there's only so much you can say to a 4 year old, and she agreed to go. I wasn't about to pay $30 for Witten to go, he would not have sat through it, so she had to get over herself.

Both girls LOVED the show. It was all princesses, so of course they loved it. David hadn't been that excited about going, because he's a man and it was a princess show, but it was fun for him and for me just to see how much fun the girls had. Ava said it was the best day ever, but she says that frequently so I don't know how much she meant it. She did love it though. Every time I looked over at her and Alana's faces they were so happy and excited, totally worth the price of admission.

After the princesses and ice skating finally concluded, we drove back home, picked up my boy, and sat around for like an hour before dropping all of our kids off for a sleepover. Then we went to karaoke for David's birthday.

I was reluctant to go out again that night. I was tired, I'm a homebody, I don't drink. BUT, it ended up being the most fun I'd had in a long time. I laughed so hard I cried, I caught up with old friends who I've known since seventh grade, I ate some fried food, I teased David's cousin about not knowing how to ride a bike. Good times. I want to go again, just to hear a white lady rap Ice Ice Baby one more time in my life.

All in all, fall break was a hit. I didn't want to go back to our routine after that two weeks off. It was cold outside and I had to wash my hair. I would prefer to stay home in my pajamas, catch up on my cookie eating. But real life has resumed, I might as well embrace it.
